Commercial
Bank of New York has developed its unique franchise by building on three
core areas of activity: private banking, business banking and consumer
banking. As
CBNY has grown, the expansion of these activities and the interplay
among them has given our Bank its one-of-a-kind character and a singular
place in its market. After a difficult 1998 when earnings, for a variety
of reasons, fell significantly from the previous year, in 1999 CBNY
recovered completely, not only matching, but exceeding the record results
achieved in 1997. Indeed, in 1999 we experienced the best annual cash
earnings in the history of the Bank.
